I was a chubby kid and went on my first diet at 10. I spent years trying every diet out there hoping something would finally stick. Been there. Done that. And it only got worse as I got older.
As a busy working mom, wife, domestic goddess (sort of) and business owner, putting everyone and everything first took its toll on my health. My bad habits of wine and sugar to help me unwind combined with stress and hormones left me soft and fluffy (but not in a cute way) and I felt miserable.
I wanted to feel and look better but I had tried every plan in the past and they never stuck.
There was counting calories, points, macro’s, logging every bite, eating on a schedule, high protein, low carb, and even higher protein and lower carbs. To name a few. I even tried these weight loss candies. I ate the whole container. Sigh.
Exercise? Same thing. I either exercised like a boss or was too burnt out to lift anything but my wine. I read it all though. I was drowning in a sea of information on health and fitness.
Sure, those things worked for a while, but for the effort it took, I couldn’t keep it up. All that “healthy” living on top of a busy life left me exhausted, injured, confused, and in even worse health than before. Why didn’t I feel spectacular after all my efforts?
It was time to gain back control of my health. I knew there had to be a better way. One that made me feel good about what I was doing, and didn’t take more time away from what mattered to me most. To be present in the life I worked so hard to create. To be with the people I love and to eat what was being served. I wanted the healthy part of my life to make me happy and add more value, to fill me with joy and feel satisfied in my soul. Not make me feel guilty if I ate a noodle.
I went on a mission to learn as much as I could about nutrition and fitness in a sane way. To learn what science and research had to say. I wanted evidence (hey, I’m a science nerd) and simplicity. I wanted to find a way that didn't focus on "the best plan to lose weight" and instead how to live a vibrant, fit, and healthy life for years to come. But mostly, I wanted to learn how to eat like a normal person in my mind. Not obsess about every morsel.
You may be wondering how did this amazing transformation happen? I’ll tell you. I did the opposite of everything I did before.
Yup, I went back to the beginning and started over. I took my time to learn how to eat in a way that makes my body thrive even with my busy life. I learned how to find pleasure in food, eating, and movement. I learned what nourished my body, mind, and spirit. I drowned out the noise and focused solely on doing the actions that mattered most to get and keep me healthy. And I can help you do the same. Simple, smart, sustainable, and fits into your world.
